The Mayor of Greater Manchester and LEP board member Andy Burnham attended the inaugural creative media conference at the FutureSkills college in Media City, and gave an inspiring speech to 150 students about careers in the media and creative industries.
The £4M FutureSkills college in Salford was part funded with Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership approved Growth Fund.
During his speech Mr. Burnham spoke of his plan to launch GMACS, a pioneering new scheme in 2020 which will support young people in Greater Manchester to find work experience, paid internships and shadowing opportunities in the growing media and creative sectors across the city-region .
Alongside The Mayor’s speech, students took part in a range of hands on skills workshops delivered by industry professionals. These sessions included lighting for films, photography composition, radio recording, vox pops and live text event coverage.
