A new ‘Brand Bolton’ board has set out ambitious plans to grow the local economy, boost footfall and celebrate the best of the borough on a global stage as it launches its new place led approach.
Brand Bolton, a partnership between private sector and Bolton Council, will launch a new way of promoting Bolton on Thursday 27 February that will weave throughout the borough and act as the catalyst to the continued regeneration programme.
The Brand Bolton board say the programme has the potential to transform the Town Centre and surrounding areas, creating a platform for future growth and investment. Up to 4,300 FTE jobs could be created along with new housing to accommodate up to 5,000 new residents, and a boost to the Bolton visitor economy by £11m per annum.
The launch of the brand will cement the town as a strategic location to live, work, invest, study and visit in the North of England – leaning into its Greater Manchester location, just 12 miles from Manchester City Centre.
The newly formed board and ambassador programme will promote the borough as a place for business, a place with a growing population, a place of connectivity, a place with a diverse leisure and cultural offer, and a place committed to growth.
The ‘We Are Bolton’ ambassadors, with representatives from retail, sport, business, charity, leisure and the council, have joined forces to share one message from collective voices:
Unlocking potential for the local economy – attracting visitors and inward investment.
Becci Martin, Founder of Bolton-based Boo Consulting and co-chair of the Brand Bolton board, said: “We really believe that Bolton is a thriving town with only great things in its future. We have so much to offer and so much to showcase.
“Bolton is born to perform. We don’t need to follow the old set of rules here. We can do things the way that Bolton wants to do them for the future of our town.
“We want to encourage businesses and large employers to come and do business here in Bolton, to open up new opportunities for local people and to enhance the town centre and surrounding areas. ”
The town has undergone significant investment in the last 25 years – including refurbishment of the museum, library, and Octagon Theatre, new transport hub with, improvement to public spaces, and the ongoing refurbishment of Bolton Market.
Bolton has also earned a reputation as the ‘Hollywood of the North’ with over 140 filming days happening in the Greater Manchester town in 2023.
