Strategy
The Greater Manchester Business Board and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority jointly own the Greater Manchester Strategy.
The strategy sets out our vision that by 2031 the Manchester city region will have pioneered a new model for sustainable economic growth based around a more connected, talented and greener city region, where all our residents are able to contribute to and benefit from sustained prosperity and a good quality of life.
It also informed the development of our Local Industrial Strategy which outlines a set of long-term policy priorities to help guide industrial development and provide a joint plan for good jobs and growth in Greater Manchester.
The Strategy, published in June 2019, was co-designed with business, the community, the voluntary and social enterprise sector and citizens. A comprehensive consultation exercise was undertaken, including a 6-week formal consultation.
The strategy sets out plans to capitalise on the city-region’s unique assets and opportunities by:
Setting Greater Manchester up to be a global leader on health and care innovation – creating new industries and jobs, improving population health and extending healthy life expectancy
Building on Greater Manchester’s position as a leading European digital city-region; enabling the digitalisation of all sectors; and capitalising on the links between digital and creative industries that feed internationally significant clusters in broadcasting, content creation and media, and maximising growing assets in cyber security
Strengthening the city-region’s foundations of productivity and ensuring that growth benefits all people and places
Positioning Greater Manchester as a world-leading city-region for innovative firms to experiment with, develop and adopt advanced materials in manufacturing
Achieving carbon neutral living in Greater Manchester by 2038, by launching the UK’s first city-region Clean Growth mission
