Joint statement by Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership (GM LEP) Co-Chairs Lou Cordwell and Mo Isap, and Cllr Elise Wilson, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Portfolio Lead for Economy and Business, on the government’s announcement on Covid-19 tiers:

“News that Greater Manchester will be under Tier 3 restrictions from December 2 will come as a hammer blow to those businesses who cannot reopen.

“The hospitality, accommodation, and culture sectors – key to our night-time economy and ones for which Greater Manchester is globally renowned – will suffer the most. Christmas is the most important trading period for many businesses in these sectors, and without adequate support, some of our pubs, bars and restaurants could be forced to close for good.

“The GMCA, the GM LEP and our partners remain committed to helping individuals and businesses endure this incredibly difficult period.

“The Business Growth Hub continues to run its dedicated Covid-19 landing page and helpline, which provide guidance on the support available. Local authorities can also provide further advice and information.

“We understand the announcement has come as an enormous disappointment to many, particularly given the sacrifices we’ve all made to bring the infection rate down during this latest lockdown period. We want the business community to know we are providing all the support we can.”
